Career History

Chris joined the firm as an Articled Clerk to his father in January 1960 and became a Partner in October 1964. For 12 years from 1970 he worked at our then Selsey Office but apart from that he has worked at the Bognor Regis Office throughout. Chris became a Consulting Partner as from April 2006.

Chris Martin joined the firm initially as a Clerk articled to his father, Reginald Martin, who himself had joined Henry Chamberlain in 1931. Both he and his father were former Presidents of the Chichester and District Law Society.

Chris deals mainly with property work both domestic and commercial together with Wills and Trusts and Enduring Powers of Attorney. He also acts for a major Housing Association Group and was on the Committee of Management for a number of years in the 1970’s. He advises businesses both small Partnership and Companies.

Chris attended Lancing College from 1954 to 1959 where he was Captain of both the cricket and football XI’s and in January 1960 he captained the Public Schools’ soccer team against the Grammar Schools in a match played at the Oval. As Chris’s parents were both golfers he took up golf at an early age and in the 1960’s was awarded his Sussex County Cap and played a number of times for the County. He has been a member of the Bognor Regis Golf Club for some 55 years and was Captain of the Club in 1971 and again in 2000.

Chris married Margaret in 1964 and they continue to live in the house that they bought in Middleton-on-Sea. They have two children, Ian who is an Equity Partner with Macfarlanes, a leading commercial firm of Solicitors in the City, and daughter Joanna who, after qualifying as a Solicitor and joining the Crown Prosecution Service, converted to a Barrister in 2005 and is with Devon Chambers in Plymouth doing wholly criminal work. Chris and Margaret have three grandchildren, Thomas, Edward and Jessica.
